One of the best things about living in Tucson, Arizona, is all the opportunities to get outside and enjoy the nice weather. For example, there are many excellent hiking spots in the area. Here are some spots worth checking out when you want to go hiking.
Gould Mine Loop
The low-elevation Gould Mine Loop is suitable for beginners and an excellent option for anyone wanting to experience classic Southwestern landscapes. Located in the Saguaro National Park West, the trail winds through the Tucson Mountains and takes you past abandoned mines. In the spring and summer months, a blanket of orange poppies covers the canyon walls. You’ll also notice petroglyphs marking the rock walls that line the sandy wash. Gould Mine Loop and the surrounding area of King Canyon let you experience the Sonoran Desert’s biological and cultural diversity in all of its glory.
Pima Canyon Trail
Thanks to its varied landscape, Pima Canyon Trail offers a fun challenge for intermediate hikers. What starts as a rocky desert ridge eventually turns into a cool riparian wash filled with cottonwood trees. Then the trail takes you around the bend to a canyon surrounded by peaks and a set of old dams. You can still see the mortar holes that Hohokam women used to grind seeds. The trail starts to get steeper as it makes its way to Mount Kimball. The views of West Fork Rift and the Tucson Valley are worth the effort.
These are just two of the many excellent hiking spots around Tucson. Get outside and enjoy the city’s natural wonders.
